After moving from England to the United States in 2009, Ben became the shelter director at a rural, Southeast Georgia animal shelter. He dealt with all roles at the shelter, including adoptions, animal behavior, assessments, animal abuse, staff, governments, rescues, and many other responsibilities and tasks. He prided himself in that he would not ask a colleague to do something that he would not do himself, building a relationship with his staff, friends, animal control and other law enforcement organizations.

Ben started volunteering with Karen Talbot/Making of Miracle Stories (MOMS) and Animal Aid in 2012, providing assistance where needed. Ben now focuses directly on Animal Aid, using his experience and knowledge to help the abandoned and unwanted animals in the South. He actively volunteers and rehabilitates dogs and occasionally wildlife. Ben also maintains a working relationship with the Georgia Department of Agriculture and local law enforcement, assisting them when needed.
